Which bank feels the most dated?

  • Tarting up a railway station doesn't make the train services any better.
So if a particular bank branch offers excellent service and the interior is "grotty", does it matter?
Image isn't everything which seems to be the modern trend i.e. image over substance.

Going back to the original question - my local Natwest has been "modernised" - which means all the cashiers have disappeared, the enquiry desk where you could go for help has gone. Now there is a bank of machines, a few staff wandering around with iPads and some sofas where you can take a ticket (like at the deli counter) and sit and wait, if you really must see someone.

I much prefer my other local Natwest, where there are still cashiers and an enquiry desk... but sadly it is closing in a few months. That's progress I guess.
Many of the Barclays branches appear to be wall to wall machines too which is fine for some. But my dads Natwest is closing soon and we need to find him a couple of new banks (too many eggs for one basket) in which to deposit his money. He needs old fashioned. He needs a cashier. He cant operate the technology of machines and the internet and to be perfectly frank - why should he? Lets keep some old fashioned service because not everyone can cope with the modern world.

We don't have many bank branches left in our town. I think there is a Barclays and a Lloyds. I rarely go into banks these days though.

Probably Lloyds - my local branch has not changed much since I opened my first child's savings accounts there as a kid.

Still has the same old layout, albeit with no machines on the inside you would get other banks (paying in, statement printing etc) and the same old counters with glass. The only things that have changed are the staff and ATMs outside, which have been replaced with newer models. And the branding - used to be Lloyds Bank, then Lloyds TSB and then back to Lloyds Bank. :rotfl:

I don't notice whether a bank looks dated - largely because I rarely venture into one so have nothing to compare to!

Your 'which bank' thread title theme reminds me of someone else who posts here. You don't have a celebrity girlfriend do you?

Although not strictly a bank I don’t know if Birmingham Midshires branches are in need of updating as I have never visited one.

But without fear of contradiction I think the prize for any financial organisation needing an update of their systems must fall to them.

Their “ on line” application starts with sending a on line form which then descend into quill pen era with numerous letters been sent out requiring written replies. Added to this is the time taken to finalise the operation of the account I applied on 3Dec and my account is still not open.

So I would be happy to deal with an organisation that premises are in need of updating as long as they were efficient.

What is wrong with dated ?
Greeted by name and a hand shake, lead into a private oak panelled office, business done on the strength of your character and your good name. All sounds quite civilised to me .

I think they closed down their branch network in 2001.

    And they are a bank.

Lloyds is very out of date and old and rusty. They don't even give out contactless cards on basic accounts.

That is because you are not credit worthy, hardly Lloyds fault.
