Only if it's been taken as far as a CCJ. If you're just in arrears then mortgage providers can't find this out.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

Are the arrears so high that the council has put a charge on your house?0
-
It would be very unusual for a council to put a charge on the property. Equally committal is very unlikely. Some councils never do it at all. If they know a sale is in progress a good council should put enforcement on hold until the sale completes. They may still want a liability order though. The key is to keep them informed.0

Beware not paying council tax. Afaik it's the only debt you can end up in prison for
https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/debt-and-money/help-with-debt/dealing-with-urgent-debts/dealing-with-council-tax-arrears/If you still don’t pay
In extreme cases you could go to prison, but normally only if you’re deliberately not paying your Council Tax.
- but, with respect, if you have this issue you might be best speaking to a debt charity like

- or look on the debt forums
Hope things improve0
