BMIBaby - booking for March 2008 but so expensive!

Hello!
A friend of mine is making a booking from Birmingham Intl. to Palma Mallorca from 23-30 March 2008. It's just a week away but the flights from bmibaby are coming up at nearly £400!
Last year they booked around the same time and it was around £150-200 for the return flights. I remember because I booked it for them (they're not really internet savvy you see
)
Any ideas when BMIbaby will release their cheap flights? Also I notice Thomsonfly goes to the same destination but they are also quite pricey which is strange given it's months before the flight date and they're supposed to be 'budget' airlines! :eek:
If anyone can help out that would be great!

It's Easter - you aren't going to get bargains0

The difference is, as alanrowell says, that our friend the easter weekend has moved to March for 2008, when it was in April this year and this is mucking up your cheap flights comparison, because demand is always higher for easter.
Good Friday is March 21 2008.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Wow it is early this year! I didn't know that, I'll have to tell them the bad news. I think they've both already booked their leave or are about to but I'll ask them to reconsider the dates, any recommendations for alternative dates for cheaper flights, those of you that know when schools break up etc.?!

Go earlier in March, but it may be cooler, so perhaps consider the canaries or go in late April.
Because it is early, some schools are having their spring holiday in April and just taking Good Friday and Easter Monday off as holidays.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
i'd also add that as well as the easter school break you've also got people using up annual leave before the 1st april0

Just to add to the confusion a number of schools have moved to fixed length terms so the "Easter" break is now fixed sometime in early April - but the kids still get the Easter bank holidays off
So now there are 2 sets of peak demand around the end of March0 -
Do they have to fly bmibaby? If you use http://www.skyscanner.net you can compare all airlines and dates. Looking on there, they could fly out with Thomas Cook on 22nd March, and fly home with Monarch on 29th March for around £150 per adult. Not bad for easter dates....0
