Married Couple, Wife first time buyer

  • What happens when the parties are not married but simply girlfriend and boyfriend. Can the first time buyer buy the house and then they marry afterwards meaning the assets are now jointly owned?

    There is a mortgage type - joint applicant sole proprietor which they could use to purchase the property before they marry. It would of course depend on trust between the parties on the second part of the deal happening ��

    So I rang the Stamp Duty Help line and as painful as it is they class married couples as a unit for tax purposes and so if you keep the first house you will pay the higher tax rate.
    However, if you do sell it within 3 year you can claim the higher tax rate percentage back

    No !!!! Sherlock. That information is in the manual linked to on this thread and just about every other thread about the higher rate of SDLT of which there are many.
