    I would do as you have done and refer it to financial ombudsman but inform the rental agency of that as they were the ones who signed you into the ridiculous payment collection service in the first place.

    You don’t need personal details of employees. Just write to them saying you have referred it to the financial ombudsman as well. I would tell your bank too and make sure the direct debit mandate is cancelled.
