As a suvverner, I admit to woeful ignorance of god's own county. I shall be coming up the A1/ A64 and spending one night in York YHA but prolly arriving after shopping hours (and will frankly be too tired from the long drive).
On the second day, going from York to Corbridge and then staying near there to do Hadrian's Wall etc. The last day will be wending from Corbridge to dahn sarf, if anyone could point out market towns where it would be good to stop for a break and a chazzer raid, sort of draw a line from Corbridge to Lunnon Town and I'll be somewhere close-ish to that line.
Thanks in advance, heading out to the lotties now, will be back this evening/ late afternoon.
Oh, the other 'side' of Yorkshire....not explored that very much chazza-wise so can't really help...sorry:o Don't envy you visiting York, parking's a nightmare and it's full of blooming' touristsasking 'where's the Minster' , 'how do I get to The Shambles':p. Can recommend Wetherby and/or Boroughbridge as nice places to stop for a break. (Wetherby is good for charity shops but not sure about Boroughbridge.) Hope you have a lovely time.

Thanks, everyone, keep 'em coming.
York is just an in-and-out to break the northbound journey at the YHA, have stayed there before and done all the touristic things, leaving the car at the YHA and walking into town along the river. Much the better way than trying to park in the middle of a city.
I think I will await further tips and plan a market town (or two) for little stops on the southbound journey, which will be a bit of slog otherwise.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Thirsk's got a good selection of charity shops in the main market square, and it's just off the A1M, about a 10-15 minute detour from the motorway south. Or just off the A19 if you're coming that road south.
Personally I'm a fan of the Tia greyhound rescue shop in Pickering, but that's probably a bit far off your route south from Corbridge.0 -

This blog makes quite interesting reading, although I am not sure how up to date it is. The places with hyperlinked names take you to a description of the charity shops they have visited in that particular town.

I wonder if between us we could have a thread with an alphabetical list of chazzers by town? I would be happy to put it together and maintain it if people wanted to contribute.0 -
