Date of default 20/01/2012
it's coming up to the 6 year period for the default to be wiped on my credit file.
the issue is, i've not paid it off yet as i've only just started paying off all my debts after all this time i'll be honest.
I won't have the money to pay this until after 20th, what i want to know is will the default wipe even if the debt is not paid or will the default reset for another 6 years?
thanks

It will drop off regardless.
Have you made any payment or acknowledgement of it in the last 6 years to the person you owe it to or the collection company?0 -
A the default is removed from your credit file after 6 years. That is all. It does not change your obligation to pay it, and your creditors will still have the records of your debt. It will not (or should not, but mistakes do happen) reappear.
However, as touched on above, if you have made no payments towards the debt in over 6 years, or acknowledged it in any way, by law the creditor (or debt collector) can not legally chase you for it. But that still doesn't mean you don't owe them the money. Merely they can't take you to court (they may still try and hound you). So you don't have to pay in that case.0 -
Hi,
I started paying off a small sum each month last year i think, i'm in a position where i can pay it off but not until 2 months time or so.
i'm aware that i still have an obligation to pay the debt and i do intend to pay my debts, i was going to lend the money if the default stayed for another 6 years without paying the full amount.
so just to confirm, the default will go off my file after the 20th jan regardless of the amount being satisfied?0 -
