Please could you tell me where I go to have a Pergola custom made? I have a bit of an awkard sized space, so the off the shelf kits dont fit.
Thanks very muchhttp://img.moneysavingexpert.com/icons/icon7.gif

Try a local carpenter or someone that knows DIY woodwork, Wickes is cheap for the wood and trelis. I constructed one in my previous house - made it much better than the kit pack ones.0

This is very true – Always try to get a personal recommendation from friends, neighbours or family. A local carpenter need not specialise in pergolas, although if they have designed and constructed a few you are more likely to get exactly what you want at a reasonable price. You could also visit your nearest builders yard (Travis Perkins/Jewsons etc) as opposed to a DIY store, and ask for a recommendation – you may have to leave your contact details to be passed on, but they know their trade customers well and should know who frequently buys pergola components.I came, I saw, I did a little browsing.0 -

Do you have a blacksmith handy? Perhaps look in Yellowpages? I've twice - second time just recently - found a smith to make me gates and arches/pergola for awkward spaces. It's much cheaper than you'd think, you're supporting a local craftsman/woman, and good metal lasts for years, as well as being very attractive. You can design your pergola to be as ornate, or as plain, as you fancy. Give it a go:-)Nice to save.0
