Car hire excess insurance question

I am trying to get car hire excess insurance to cover a ridiculous $8000 aud excess in Australia. The vehicle in question is a Toyota Landcruiser with what I think is a modified interior (fridge etc.). Every insurer I've looked at say they don't cover a) off-road vehicles b) modified vehicles. Not sure if this counts as an off-road vehicle - I would call it that, but a bit ridiculous no one would insure a 4x4 when not used for off-road purposes. Anyone had any luck getting excess insurance for vehicles modified to be camper van type things?

http://www.insurance4carhire.com do not exclude off-road vehicles per se, they just won't cover damage that occurs if a vehicle is used off-road. However they do exclude camper vans so if the modifications have turned it into one of them (ie it has beds in there rather than just a fridge stuck in the back) then it would be excluded.0

Unfortunately they won't cover it because a measly fridge is installed0
