Anywhere worth visiting for 3-4 hours around Gatwick?

Group of us going to fly from Gatwick on 6.30am flight some time in Apr

So we decided to book hotel for the night before + parking near LGW instead of relying on public transport.

Current plan is leaving Birmingham around mid morning to avoid all traffic.

So, is there anywhere worth visiting around LGW or on the route between Birmingham to LGW for couple of hours?

Horley is one stop north on the train from Gatwick Airport train station in South Terminal.

Excellent Wetherspoons a couple of minutes walk from Horley train station...

I know its not money saving so someone will shoot me . We travelled similar for an early flight and stayed over close to the airport . Traveling from Merseyside and getting through Birmingham before the tea time rush . We booked The Fat Duck . in bray ( by maidenhead ) for a bit of a gastro experience. Pricey yes but a great time was had by us 4 adults no kids . then continued about another hour or 50 miles to LGW . Never seen Heston though
