Really bad home buyer's survey- help please!

Exactly! It is a nice house, beautifully decorated, great size, huge garden but obviously all these issues have really put a downer on the whole thing. I think I'll ask the current owners to sort it out. If they say no, I'll have to pull out and keep looking!
That phrase just doesn't fit with the survey report.
Either the surveyor has massively exaggerated the problems or the vendor has tried to mask the damp and other defects with a fresh coat of paint. I'm erring towards the latter.
If the vendor has deliberately tried to conceal serious defects it's probably best to walk away.0 -
what about getting someone in to inspect the damp and getting quotations ..have they ever have damp work done on the property before we had damp proofing done recently on our 2 bed cottage and it was only 2 grand (smart dry) and hassle free as all done outside so no need for replastering and air bricks etc ..if you love the house ask if you can have people in to give you estimates on the work and then ask for a reduction according to this ..?
If the house is much cheaper than others though and the property is over 100 years old i would think that these are pretty much normal for a house of this age...but yeah get the experts in and they will quote and then you can take it from there

Houses that appear cheaper than others nearby are cheaper because they are difficult to sell. They are difficult to sell because they have a problem. The problem with this house is the damp, what is causing it and how extensive it is.0
