packaging complaint

I have an item that is currently unpaid (early days yet though) and just had a quick look at the buyers feedback left for others- buyer usually buys fragile collectables and has left three negatives in the past 6 months moaning that sellers have used polystyrene chips or peanuts which make 'an awful mess' in his house.

Hmm, they have bought an antique breakable item from me which I would normally double box and use bubble wrap and packing peanuts to protect- I may have to rethink my packing strategy!

I'd be tempted to stick a warning on the outside of the packaging along the lines of 'extra packaging used to protect item - please open carefully as this could spill'. Sounds like a serial moaner so maybe that's whistling in the dark!

Sometimes you just have to take one on the chin. With a definite neg expected, pack it in sawdust. On the other hand just take this as a Devils Advocate response and don't actually do that!

You might want to rethink your "sending it at all strategy".

I'd look for ways to get out of the transaction.

How about keeping the bubble wrap which he doesnt object to and using old towels to further encase the item? Old towels that are clean but pensioned off make excellent extra padding.

The weight of towels versus packing peanuts is considerable.

I wouldn't be pandering to his previous feedback. Pack as normal and as suggested add a note to the parcel explaining peanuts are inside.

If this punter is a known grouch, then pack the article in popcorn (explode without oil) & glitter, and leave a note on the packaging and by ebay messages warning them. Inexpensive, and if they decide to neg again (a) you have a laugh & (b) a clear trail of warning.

Bonus points if it's all edible as I'm told edible glitter sparkles all the way through...

Buyer has paid now so I am shipping today. I have plenty of bubble wrap (thanks to the 10% ebay voucher last week!) and due to a parcel arriving for me yesterday I also have those expanded air filled bags- so I will use them together with newspaper to seal between the two boxes.

Using recycled stuff like this will save me money, but no doubt he will object to scrunched up old newspaper- but it can't be helped. I won't risk this delicate item being broken.
