Protected No Claims at renewal

I'm a bit confused about the no claims discount at renewal.
My last renewal with Tesco showed that I had 9 years no claims discount that was protected.
I had a bump in October and now my renewal shows 3 years no claims discount applied.
On comparison sites do I have to write I have the 3 years which Tesco choose to give me or do I put the 9 and details of the accident? I'm confused and looking online different insurers reduce to different numbers of years after a claim.

You put 3 years NCD (as that is what you now have) and details of the incident.0

Did you take out protected no claim discount for the current year?
If so, and assuming only the one claim, then they look to have made an error
Alternatively if you didn't take out protection for the current year then 3 years at renewalis correct
You do ned to disclose theclaim when getting quotes irrespective of whether you have 3 or 9 years NCD
You do need to resolve the 3 or 9 with Tesco urgently as you currently can only prove 3 years to a new insurer.0 -
Often insurers show excessive yrs of no claims discount but realistically its 5 yrs max. If you actually had 9 and a discount to reflect that it would end up being free.
Normally after a fault claim your ncd will reduce 2 yrs giving you 3 yrs. That suggests either you didn't have protected NCD or they have made a mistake. Id contact them to clarify that but they will increase your premium protected or not. It just means the premium wont increase as much with protected ncd.0 -
Yes I took out protected no claims. Tesco are saying max 5 so reduces 2 years to 3 but I think other insurers do different. Its so confusing.0

In that case raise a complaint against Tesco and request they issue you a corrected NCD proof0

Have you had any other (earlier) claims? Most protected bonus policies have limits on the number of claims (e.g. 2 fault claims in 3 years) that you can have before your NCB is affected. All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0

Thanks all. Spoken to Tesco and all sorted. It seems that their new computer system was saying I hadn't protected my no claims. After kicking up a bit of a fuss as I was certain I had they have confirmed they made an error and are sending me a new proof of no claims out in the post.
Now I just need to search for the new insurance.
Thank you for the advice all.0
