2018 Accounting?

Hey, I wasn't sure exactly where to put this, so I hope this is okay....

It's the new year and I'm looking to clean up my accounts, which I'm just doing in Excel right now. I'm honestly kind of a mess, and don't know what I'm doing.

Is there an easy software that can help with accounting stuff? Something free? (Or is this something I need to invest in/hire someone for???)

Can you say anything about what your priorities are? Priorities for the software? Priorities for what you want to achieve?

e.g.:

save time?

get a better view of savings / investments?

find out where you could spend less?

sort out tax returns?

Please don't pay someone to do this for you - Excel is perfectly capable of managing complex accounting (the company I work for, a £400m turnover business, still uses Excel as it's primary accounting software).

Per the above - what are you trying to do?

I use my homemade excel sheet, I am no expert, only self taught..it's easy
Just start a list of accounts and let it develop organically
