Storage headache. Is my money saving idea viable?

The space available in our bedroom is very limited.
In order to boost storage, we intend to replace a pair of waist-high 5-drawer units with taller storage e.g. wardrobes or cupboards of 175cm+
The existing 5-drawer units are around 35cm wide and we could go up to 45cm with replacement solutions. However, almost all tall 1-door wardrobes and cupboards we've found are at least 50cm wide. Only 5cm but will make a lot of difference negatively.
We have, however, found plenty of tall cupboards with perfect heights and depths in the freestanding bathroom storage ranges of many retailers.
Probably a daft question but is there any glaring reason why we can't by wood effect freestanding bathroom storage cupboards to use in our bedroom? I'm thinking the bathroom range's quality may be inferior despite prices seeming relatively similar and both being MDF with oak effect, the usual kind of thing for budget-ish furniture.
Thanks!

There's no obvious reason why you can't do as you propose. The only thing is to make sure you fix the units to the wall somehow as tall units with very little depth will not be very stable and may tip over."In the future, everyone will be rich for 15 minutes"0

if it helps reassure you i've done exactly that in the past, and visa versa too
. i just put heavy items at the bottom.
it might be possible to also get shelving and just attach a lightweight door to the front as sometimes these are a better width, but you would need to be careful r.e. weight of the door etc.- Chez0 -
are the current drawers side by side?
Ikea pax frames come 75cm width 35cm or 50cm deep
You door and interior to you own requirements.0 -
Thanks for the encouraging replies.
Good point about securing the tall cupboard/wardrobe to the wall.
We can go upto 60cm depth. It's the width that's the problem, the current 35cm for the drawers too narrow, but 50cm for IKEA PAX too wide, hence looking for something around 45cm and finding "bathroom" furniture.
The drawers are in two different places, not side by side.0 -
Bathroom units will be fine.
If you can go to 60cm depth look at tall kitchen units they come in 40cm width.
the trick will be finding interiors that optimise the space(shelves/pull outs etc. with the right gaps) so check the pre drilled holes for extra interior bits.0
