Listing fees

Can someone clarify what happens if I don't sell an item I've listed. Am I still charged?

Any listing fee is charged at the time you list an item, so is payable whether or not it sells. If the listing was free and the item doesn't sell, you aren't charged anything.

Another exception to the 'no sale = no charge' is if you add a reserve price to a listing, as the fee for that remains payable whether or not item sells.

Which I think would show up at the time the listing is placed, so you'd know it was being charged...?

Yet so many sellers appear to overlook it and end up asking why they are being charged a percentage fee for a reserve when the item didn't sell.
