Overstay of 18mins at Iceland car park - whilst shopping in Iceland!

Hello all
I apologise if a similar question has been posted before. I have scoured the forum but haven't managed to find anything that matches my situation specifically.
We parked at the Iceland car park in Waltham Cross on Saturday (day before New Year's Eve) and overstayed 18 minutes - the time on our Iceland receipt is 16:42 and our parking ticket expired at 16:24.
When we came back to our car, straight after paying for our shopping, we found a yellow card on our windscreen with large text on one side saying "ATTENTION! DOCUMENT ENCLOSED - THIS IS NOT A PARKING CHARGE NOTICE" - there was no other document enclosed. On the other side there was a serial number, date, paragraph saying "The Car Park operator has reason to believe that this vehicle is parked in contravention of the advertised Terms & Conditions. As a result a Parking Charge Notice may be issued to the registered Keeper through the post." There is a link to the myparkingcharge website where you can view and appeal the charge etc.
I've checked out the link and there are pictures of the car, first photo taken at 16:30 (6 mins after the ticket expired), last one taken at 16:41 and that's also the time the ticket was issued.
We phoned the Iceland branch manager who told us he has no authority over these tickets (despite a member of staff saying they frequently cancel tickets given to staff). I explained we were shopping at Iceland when we received the ticket and that the queues were excessively long that day but he just said I'd need to go through the company's appeals process!
Any ideas on what I should do or what grounds I can appeal on?
I remember reading someone posted about an Iceland parking fine on Facebook and it was waived, so I'm keeping that as an option too!
Many thanks in advance

Have you actually been issued a ticket?
If yes Contact Iceland via their twitter or Facebook page - making it public puts more pressure on themselves.
If no then why have you contacted them - they can't cancel something that's wasn't issued.0 -
