Hope somebody can help/advise
I have googled how to get email notifications onto my desktop and it can be done by going to the settings in gmail
But
The email notification pop up vanishes after a few seconds and there is no noise/bleep with the notification when i get an new email.
What i need it to do it is make a noise every time i get a new email + pop up notifcation + stay on the screen until i either close it or click on it...
Any idea's how i can do this please, i have been searching through the settings for ages but can't see how to do it.
Do i need a 3rd party email notifier, like a chrome extension for example?
Thanks

you don't say what os you are using. there are desktop notification options in win10 (settings > system > notifications) but afaik there isn't a gmail app. you may be able to get around it with linking your gmail account to outlook mail.
can't comment on apple or linux os"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -
If its windows 10 just plug your gmail credentials into the mail app.
Then new emails slide in from the right side of the screen0 -

I think you might find that "Checker Plus for Gmail" will do all that you need, it is available in the Chrome Web Store. Also available for Firefox and Opera. You can use it as an email program, or you can use it purely for the sound notifications and pop ups that you require and continue operating your Gmail account in whatever way you are used to.0 -
There was an extension for Firefox that I used to use which allowed checking of IMAP/POP email accounts such as gmail, hotmail etc. It could sound a notification when mail arrives. I stopped using gmail and the extension when gmail became such a hassle where I was recovering a large number of gmail accounts several times a week whenever something changed such as my IP address or browser upgrade.

He does also make 2 other versions, lite and Neo versions which are linked at the bottom of that page.
I now use ThunderBird which can also do what you require. However the popup does not stay on screen until you click it but the time on screen can be set in TB options. There is also a calendar feature with alarms for specified events which can also play an alternative sound.0 -
I use a desktop gadget 'Gmail Counter'. Can't for the life of me remember where I downloaded it from, but I've been using it for years with no issues. It places a gmail icon on your desktop and it makes a sound and shows on the icon when you have any new emails (and how many). Clicking on the icon opens up your gmail login page.0
