  • I can't fathom this on mobile (I'm ridiculous, sorry!!) but re the debt free wannabe advice- thank you! I'm actually an occasional lurker of all things MSE but I'm realising getting more involved may be a good idea!!

Annoyingly, when we bought the house in 2015 we were half naive half in a rush with everything relating to income protection, and intended on going through things thoroughly once it came time to renegotiate everything...sadly 2 months into CH's hospital stay! Thank God for savings.

If we didn't have bad luck, we'd have no luck!

The National Insurance office do not issue fines for non payment of National Insurance Contributions. However, they do mark payments as 'late paid' if self employed contributions are not paid by the January following the end of the tax year. When a payment is 'late paid' a 6 week penalty for late payment is applied. This is in effect a 'slap on the wrist for not paying on time and to stop people from only paying when they need to claim benefits. National Insurance is now paid along with the self assessment at theend of the tax year, but in 2015/16 your OH would have paid his contributions either by Direct Debit or by 6 monthly bill. If his payments were by Direct Debit and a payment was missed a letter should have been sent to him advising him of this and setting him up with 6 monthly bills if he did wish to reinstate his direct debit.

\It really wouldnt do any harm in ringing the NI helpline again and asking them to trmove the late payment. Plead financial hardship and see what happens.
I really hope you can grt this sorted out. You've had enough worry from a medical point of view. It must be so difficult now having to deal with this financial blpw as well.

I don't know anything about NI payment for self-employed but your say your partner paid annually. How does this happen? Does he receive something that tells him that's how much he needs to pay, or does it work it out himself and then what?

I guess what I'm trying to ask is whether the mistake could have come from them, ie. they asked him to pay the wrong amount, as if so, then you might have a case to dispute.

Present for 6 and likely to continue for 6 I believe...

A well recovered stoma will not need ongoing care from an additional person. I very much doubt it would qualify someone for PIP (from my admittedly limited experience of 2 friends with them)

I agree. My dad had a colonoscopy bag fitted when he was 79 and a widower and he managed it perfectly well himself without any help.
