ESA and Passport

Options
Happy New Year!
I am a new ESA claimant- contributions based.Had a customer statement sent to me today.
I worked for 2 weeks in US in 2014. DWP are asking for proof( such as 303 forms or airline tx), the only thing I have is my Passport
My problem is they want the original, and I need it as proof of ID at the Doctors and Hospital for a cancer biopsy upcoming, and it is my sole proof of ID for everything else.
Has anyone been in this situation and squared this circle.I do not want to send it to Belfast with no firm return date.
Thanks for any insight and help...

Contact your local JobCentre and arrange to go in there to get the passport copied. Explain why you need to retain it and there shouldn't be a problem.
Don't just walk in without an appointment as most JC's won't see you on that basis.

Admittedly this is years ago but when I worked for DWP all that would happen is you'd bring in the original, we'd photocopy it and stamp and initial the copy that it was from the original and give it straight back so you weren't without it
