Fabbing for the day - amazing how much research one has to do to keep au fait with what's what re clothes and things.
Having duly learnt that leggings come in a variety of lengths recently - it finally struck me that I'm supposed to be asking for ones that are marked as 7/8ths length (as that means they come to ankle length on shorties like me) or "petite" ones. Duh! #slap head smiles - leggings aren't supposed to crumple into folds at the ankles after a while. If they do so = that means they are too long and it's down to the manufacturers to make a short/petite/seven-eighths length and I need to specify that's what I require personally.0 -
Then there's me Money who struggles to find leggings that don't end up at shin level! I usually have to buy a size larger so I can stretch the length rather than the width lol only problem is sometimes the waist comes up to my midriff!
Thanks for the info on flax seed Humpty - when DH & I finish our fish oil I'm changing over. Probably won't buy any yet but I'll check on 'puter to see if anyone else reputable is doing them too.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -

Same here silva. New Look did a long length leggings a couple of years ago which were great but I've just had to bin the last pair and now they're discontinued.:(Thanks for the info on flax seed Humpty - when DH & I finish our fish oil I'm changing over. I think I'll buy a bottle when I'm in the city centre and keep in reserve in case the offer doesn't last.
I was only thinking today that I don't have to make a special effort for Fab Friday these days as I make an effort every day!:D It's been a fantastic day here, sunny and warm once the initial mists burned off. I wore one of my Breton tops as they've not been out much this summer as we haven't needed sleeves.
A few fab things happened: The lady at Aldi's checkout said how nice my nails looked and how much she liked the colour. Then I had a quick browse in the CS and bought a multi striped winter scarf from Joules for £2. That'll brighten up my black coats. I also bought DD1 an Emma Bridgewater mug for £1.50. She collects them but has started using old ones in the garden as plant holders. This one is in good condition so she can choose. I dropped it round to her and she's delighted. I like giving 'saw this and thought of you' gifts. They give me pleasure too.:)0 -
Good afternoon lovely ladies.
Well I have worked to the point of exhaustion again so that's it for today.
Woke up with killer backache yesterday. Noticed my bed was sagging in the middle. The removal men hadn't secured it properly when putting it back together so the legs were buckled. It's broken.
Luckily my handyman came today to finish the front garden so got him to assemble the other bed which meant switching bedrooms. I prefer that bed anyway, kinder to my old bones.....
Not sure how warm the bedroom will be during the winter because it's the attic room and is poorly insulated. I can always get an extra space heater for now. I was looking to redo the attic bedroom next year and add an ensuite so obviously I will improve the insulation then. It will be fine for now.
When I was a child we lived in a council house, no heating single glazing and my bedroom would get ice on the inside of the windows in winter. It won't be that cold. :rotfl:
Kids today don't know they're born.
Going to take it easy now, give myself a manicure and pedicure.
Btw. I'm taking pictures as I go. Hope to set up a blog at some point. Need to get some help with that though but thought it would be a nice little project over the winter.0 -
Crossed posts Maman. Some great bargains there. I love giving impromptu gifts too.
I have decided I am going to start collecting porcelain again. I'm not bothered about matching sets, so bits and bobs from charity shops which I can mix and match will be just fine. I love my plain white porcelain but I fancy some pretty colourful vintage crown derby and royal Worcester. Oddments won't break the bank. And of course there's the factory shop on my doorstep, as well as the Denby factory shop, both always worth a visit.0 -
Evening All - no fabbing today. I've been helping DH get planks and acrows in place ready to knock the wall down. Plasterer came today too to give us a quote. He's a friend of my sons and I've known him for years & he does a lovely job.
LL I've decided to get rid of a lot of my collection of willow pottery. I'll be keeping some but lots of it were bought at CS so no great outlay. With you on the single glazing and crittal windows. Remember my mum telling me not to try to pull at the net curtains when the were frozen to the windows! Getting dressed in the morning in front of the gas oven - no wonder today's youngsters are called the snowflake generation.
Maman - I did get a nice pair of long leggings in Sainsbury's a while ago - don't know if they still do them though. Shame Gok isn't doing any of their clothing now I have some lovely bits he did from there.
I'm looking for something for a Christmas weekend. A crowd of us are going away for a get together before Christmas and I'd like something 'different' I did see a jumpsuit that had black trousers and a white shirt style top but can't find it online anywhere. I realised I have a beautiful pair of black designer evening trousers and thought a white Bardot style top would do the trick.Next had a lovely one........but....is it me? I hate brass zips showing down the back - it ruined I for me so I'll have to keep looking unless one of you lovely ladies spots oneSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Having recently turned 39, I have been thinking about the big 4-0 next year. My 20s were about establishing adulthood, 30s were about entering motherhood and having a young family. My 40s will be about enjoying family life as the children are both settled in school, I have a good career and our finances have improved.
I have made lots of good purchases this year (so far) and pretty much everything has been much loved. Most of my fabbing purchases have been fairly safe though. So, as I approach 40, I want to take more fashion risks and buy a couple of crazy items. I also want a few more luxorious items, but will wait until the sales to grab a bargain.
I hope you all have a nice weekend.0 -
40 is such a fabulous birthday - well it was for me, in fact it was a real "coming of age thing" -when I really hit my stride.
When I was in my mid to Late 30s I had had a number of minor health niggles, a few gynae problems and repeated throat infections culminating in a tonsellectomy just 3.months before my birthday. I was so ill my husband was really concerned and begged me to give Up work for a while and take a sabbatical.
After a nice rest I bounced back and Once I felt well enough to return to work my husband suggested that maybe I could go to university instead. We were reasonably ok for money and as the boys were still at primary school I could easily fit full time study around the children. A lot easier than juggling child care and my job. It was a brilliant idea. So at the age of 40 I became a mature student. I loved it......more than my school years. :rotfl:
I'm currenty reading a book called Glamour for Grownups. One of my £0.01 bargains from Amazon. I have ordered 3 more which will arrive today.....all part of my new plan to read more. I have now discovered there's a library round the corner too.
Miserable day here, cold and wet but nice and cosy inside, the rugs are helping, just need to get a couple more. Had the
Smart meter fitted yesterday. It shows the decision to replace the gas boiler is definitely a good one, the current boiler works ok but it is not very efficient, rather expensive to run. The meter has also shown me that a most of the lightbulbs also need switching to low energy sooner rather than later. Some of the light fittings are truly hideous so I shall get cracking on that.
I did mention that I used to like BHS for light fittings and I'm sure one of you lovely ladies recommended a nice lighting stockist. I need to do most rooms so obviously I need to keep an eye on the budget. If anyone can recommend anywhere. I will of course look at Ikea......:rotfl:
Healthy eating going well. Have some socialising planned for this weekend, entertaining here tonight and then eating out tomorrow. But that's ok. I believe in roughly following the 80:20 rule and that the odd splurge or treat wont hurt.
Hope you all have a lovely weekend. I'm hoping the weather improves - supposed to be going up into the peak district tomorrow......won't be much fun in this weather. :rotfl:0 -
Ghastly weather here too. What a difference in two days!:(
I've taken some stuff out of the freezer to defrost so I'll do a bit of batch cooking later. The freezers are packed full so I really need to eat into that (literally!) in the next few months.
I'm another that used to like BHS for light fittings/lampshades. Those I've bought recently have come from Wilkos ( a sort of chandelier thing in the guest room) and loads of plain shades (for table lambs and overhead in the sitting room) from The Range. Both shops are worth a look but as ever you have to wade through tat to find nice pieces. Ikea sometimes has nice shades too. In the rest of the house we have timeless glass shades that fit well with our 1920s house. My favourite is in the dining room where we have one of those glass shades that hangs from chains. It's a bit like this one and always reminds me of my grandmother's home.
Obviously, it does depend on the style you're looking for but the glory of the glass ones is that they can be washed.
Have a good day all, whatever you're up to.:)0 -
Me again.
Just to say that B&Q and Dunelm might be worth a look too.0
