DSLR Options

Options
I am looking to purchase a DSLR - currently using point and shoot camera and smartphone.

Not looking to spend more than £450
Not looking to upgrade camera body in next 3-4 years.

Currently considering either of these two options, but looking for recommendations as well as moneysaving tricks while making purchase:

CANON EOS 1300D DSLR Camera with 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens - Black (£296)

NIKON D3400 DSLR Camera with 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens - Black (£330)

Moneysaving trick is to buy used equipment, rather than entry level gear.

Agreed, although OP is not looking to upgrade body for a few years it is these upgrades that make second hand such a good choice

I would advise using a reputable second hand camera shop where, if possible, you can walk in a see the goods and not from unknown fleabay seller
Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens

What will you be using it for?
As daveyjp says, used gear can be a much better buy than new.

    Thanks for the replies.
I would rather buy the camera body and lens brand new.

Given this situation, please can you recommend a good DSLR option - either from the two I had originally listed or something else?

And if the price listed is reasonable or should I wait further since the models are from Mar 2016 and Aug 2016.

To give any helpful advice about options for DSLR cameras it would help to know what you want to photograph. What improvement are you hoping for over the results you obtain with your point and shoot?

The prices you quote seem very good are they grey imports?

To be honest you will see little difference in performance with any of the current entry level DSLRs.

I was a Canon EOS user for many years, but switched to Micro 4/3 to cut down on the weight of all the kit I ended up carrying around.

Why have you decided DSLR is the way to go?

I would like to take photographs of my family - sometimes dedicated self photo-shoot in nearby picturesque places, some tourism photos, birthday celebrations for little ones.

Prices are legitimate (after considering all cashback) and retailers are authentic (Currys / Argos) - although I don't know if these are the best it would get,
