Help please on boiler cover - beyond economical repair scam
Hi all
This year my boiler broke down for the first time ever. It's 14 years old.
I have a cover plan with 247 home rescue who seem to be complete crooks. They said the circuit board was blown and that made the boiler beyond economical repair. I ended up paying them £250 for someone to come and fix it, which to me suggests a perfectly economical repair - a new boiler is going to cost more like £2500 installed.
The fine print of their policy says something about only covering repairs up to 60% of the boilers value, so assuming a 10% depreciation over 14 years almost ANY repair will be considered 'beyond economical repair' and they will send you to their 'helpful' emergency team who are very good at taking £250 off you.
So - avoid these shysters at all costs.
But I would like to cover the boiler next year, especially as it's getting on a bit. Can people recommend other companies that won't weasel out of making a repair? Years ago I had British Gas out half a dozen times trying to fix an old vaillant boiler that was losing pressure and they didn't even have a call out charge.
Thanks in advance!

If you are going to carry on with this vendetta, do try and find an old account you've not already used before, or just create a new user account like all the most frequent posters here have done...

The only helpful reply there was something about staying with British gas, but they're the most expensive, hence asking again0

Sorry Festive Joy
I only just saw the second half of your message. What vendetta? And why should I set up a new account?0 -
I'd be issuing a county court claim for the £250 in your shoes. (Let a judge decide if their actions are reasonable.) I bet you they pay up as soon as they get the summons though.0
