Loud noise from water tank

Hello appreciate some advice on a problem I’m having with my hot water tank. It’s a water cylinder with electric Emersion heating, I live in a first floor flat with electric supply only, no gas central heating. Just recently the tank is making an extremely loud dull vibrating sound when the hot water has been running for a little while usually after a long shower or whilst running a bath. Hover I did notice that when I put thre cold tap on the noise stops immediately. So hopefully this will give you a clue as to what the problem is. I want to get a plumber in but I’d like to be more informed first so as not to get ripped off. Thanks for the help.

When a lot of water is drawn the tank needs to refill itself and the noise you describe sounds like water hammer from the ballcock, when you switch on the cold tap that may reduce the pressure and stop the hammer.0 -
Another for water hammer, which is a standing wave much like air in an organ pipe only in this case in water as the medium. Turn on your cold tap in the kitchen and then turn the house stop !!!! down to a flow that you can live with from the tap. This reduction in pressure may stop the hammer.0

I would assume it’s unvented ?Another for water hammer, which is a standing wave much like air in an organ pipe only in this case in water as the medium. That won’t reduce the pressure only the flow rateI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

It'll reduce the pressure on the downstream side of the stop !!!! as soon as any cold water flows after it, which is where the problem probably emanates, in the cold water feed valve to the cold tank if the system has one. That's likely why turning on a cold tap stops it immediately.0 -
It won’t reduce the pressure it is a stop tap which will only reduce the flow rate, only a pressure reducing valve can alter the pressureI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

Thank you I will try this. It’s only an issue when I run the hot water for anything longer than a regular shower0
