I think you hate the left because it's idealism, (although sometimes misplaced granted) exposes human selfishness and tries to aspire to a better world.
Utter tripe. The left aspires to a world in which everybody is dragged down to the lowest level. If someone comes from a better family than someone else, they have to be penalised for that, and reduced to the level of those who didn't.

Leftism is a mission to reinvent vices as virtues. It exhibits all the seven traditional vices - gluttony, lust, greed, self-regard, despondency, rage, vainglory and sloth - but is actually proud rather than ashamed of itself for doing so. In addition it adds spite, f3cklessness and irresponsibility.
Labour was not responsible for a crash that happened internationally.
Oh yes it was. This time Labour wrecked not only our economy, but everyone else's as well. Labour didn't understand the City and in 1997 dismantled an effective financial regulation system to replace it with one that while more bureaucratic was utterly inept. This drew a huge amount of business to London, mainly banks and others here to take advantage of a pathetically feeble and ineffectual regulator. Brown thought all this tax revenue was just great and came with no strings attached. Of course, other jurisdictions saw this and had to react to avoid losing their financial sector to London. The result was that all regulation became poor because Labour wanted free money to splurge, with the result that despite record tax takings, they left us with the greatest debt and deficit in history, including WW2. MIFID 2, which comes into force today, is part of the global reaction to and rollback of Labour's catastrophic utter ineptitude.
As individuals we have a choice.......either to view our fellow humans with contempt and cynicism and attribute negative motives to them or look for the positives

There are no positives to psychopathy. Leftism is, most charitably, just a personality disorder on the narcissism spectrum, with a strong streak of envy, that manifests as sanctimonious spite, an inflated sense of entitlement, and rage in response to criticism. Less charitably, leftism exists because it provides utterly ghastly people with a cover story and a common excuse for their abject utter ghastliness.

Is Shelter a "housing" charity by your definition? Does it claim to do "housing" by your definition?

Who cares? I'm having fun pointing out the excruciating fact that a so-called, self-described "housing charity" has never in its entire 52-year history actually housed a single person. Not a single new dwelling has been called into being by the actions of Shelter. It's just a whiney lobby for more taxes on other people, and as a result, anything it says should be treated with the utmost circumspection. Its activity consists of complaining about the terms and lack of affordable housing, while doing absolutely nothing to furnish any, and demanding that others who already do something do more, and that other people be taxed more to pay for more.

It's a very, very simple point that needs a wider airing, because it exposes what lefties' favourite employer, the "not for profit", typically actually does: nothing. They just shriek, whine, pay salaries to lefties, and applaud their own virtue.

There are actual worthwhile charities out there. I've given some examples above. I became interested in this area because I have always given to various charities and one day I was approached by a chugger collecting for the WWF. It emerged in conversation that most of what I might give would constructively go to him personally for the next few years.

I looked at other charities and a remarkably similar story emerged. Jeffrey Archer started out fundraising for a charity called National Birthday Trust which apparently spent about 90% of donations on its own salaries to itself. And so on.

Now a charity has to pay its people something and there's an argument that someone who attracts £1 million more in donations is worth £950k a year - but only to itself. The key criterion for me now is whether a charity actually does something with the rest of its money. How does it use its funds to make a difference?

On that basis I contribute substantially to one - about £20,000 over the last 5 years - and in a smaller way to a couple more. They're all educational charities that actually educate people (a concept that would dumbfound Shelter). They're not just political lobbies for more of other people's money.

Shelter and indeed most charities completely fail this test, and it's important to me that nobody mistakes them for anyone who does something worthwhile. If you're unhappy at seeing them exposed as simply a shrill mouthpiece for left wing propaganda, that's too bad.
  • So are you going to answer my questions or just rant on about something else completely unconnected to the conversation?

    What was the question?

So Labour caused an international financial crash.Really? And here's me thinking it all started with the American sub- prime lending scandal!https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Financial_crisis_of_2007–2008

Yes, wikipedia is such a neutral and unpartisan site. So why were US regulatory standards lowered in a way that allowed unfettered subprime lending? Er, that would be because the US was losing out to London, where standards were so low NY lost its position as chief world financial centre to London. Hedgies and all the rest flooded across to London where there were no regulations worth a monkey's.

This all happened so Brown could create a client state and buy its votes. Nice call, Labour.

Have you read that article? Where were the first two financial institutions to get into trouble based?

So I can assume I haven't changed your views then?

    https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2012/03/is-wall-street-full-of-psychopaths/254944/
Researchers at the University of Surrey found that, compared to criminal psychiatric patients, senior business managers were more likely to have one of three personality disorders (histrionic, narcissistic, and obsessive-compulsive). And, in 2010, researchers studied 203 participants in management development programs at seven different companies and found that approximately four percent met the diagnostic criteria for psychopathy. While not studies of the financial services industry specifically, they do support the notion that there may be more psychopaths in the corporate and financial world than in the general population
. I await your evidence of psychopathy in left leaning people.
