which is best can opener

 help. i have about 3 different can openers at home, and i still end up frustrated and not able to open the thing.
i have the cheap basic "butterfly" one, the more upmarket one that takes the whole lid off and even an electric one.yet i still struggle and end up working my way through each one.
the cans are usually in the cellar, would that have anything to do with it.see how i'm thinking all sorts of stupid things.
please help.anyone else have this problem and found a solution.
the only ones i am ok with, are the dearer pull can type:mad:

I saw an ad on tv last night for a "one touch" can opener. I wasnt really paying that much attention to it at the time but i just tried looking it up on google and found it at argos here http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500000701&langId=-1&searchTerms=8421588+&x=0&y=0
I've no idea if its any good though.
Sounds pricey at £14.99 but if it makes it easier for you may be worth it.

Lidl sometimes have good can openers - they are black with a blueish turning knob. Mine cost me £1.99 and is easy to use - it grips the top of the tin and removes the lid in one go as long as you keep a hold of the trigger section - no more messy fingers.

Sign up for the free lidl e-newsletter which will have all their offers and you will be able to see when they next have kitchen utensils.

I have this one from Ikea, I don't have much luck with tin openers but this one is cheap and I have never had a problem with it

I was thinking the exact same question the other day and was thinking of posting so thanks! I have a major problem with opening the frey bentos tinned pies with my cheapo co op butterfly opener. Will keep an eye on this thread and may consider trying that argos one...

i like the 'magican', i find can openers very difficult to use (clumsy & cack handed my mum used to say) the magican is easy and i can open cans 1st attempt i have 2, from the time our rental property had a dishwasher and a helpful housemate had put opener on wash cycle when i had a tin to open.

  • Have a look for a safety can opener, they are good as they cut along the rim and don't leave any sharp edges and they are easy to use.
I have a Tala brand one bought from John Lewis several years ago, and I bought an own brand one from Lidl when they had it on sale earlier in the year.

I googled for one and found this one which looks quite good :

The Brabantia one we've got was bought 9 years ago when I bought my first house and is still as good as the day we got it - fair enough its a bit more pricey but it works. My parents had one (may still have it for all I know as its not the obvious thing you check when you go back for a meal!) that lasted at least that length of time before I moved out.

This is it on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Brabantia-Classic-White-Hand-Opener/dp/B0002HPJ0C/ref=sr_1_4/026-4054228-7226849?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&qid=1192623922&sr=1-4 but you can get them in loads of places.

It works like one of the cheapo butterfly ones except that instead of the fixed (usually blunt) blade, it has a circular blade that rotates at the same time as the can is turning so its not always using the same bit of blade. I suspect build quality also comes into it as the blade is a lot sharper than butterfly ones and is probably made of some decent metal!
