new job offer

  • I think there must be a reason why you looked for a new job? Sometimes the thought of changing jobs can seem really daunting however if the work will be more varied/interesting you may regret not making the move if you are looking for the type of role.

The salary is £2,000 more but you are working more hours, is there actually any increase in the hourly rate? As said above if the pension is not as good, sounds like you're overall compensation is no better than what you are currently getting.

Even at the bottom end of the job market £2,000 is a mediocre salary increase unless you're going to be working less hours, you should always be aiming to move up the ladder, I would not risk the jump to another company for that sort of pay increase.

The fact that they tried to match your current salary and then make what sounds like an empty promise is not exactly a good sign either. Did you tell them your current salary?!

    happy hols to everyone

I have a new job offer in bag, but, I am still 50/50 ish on my decision whether to stay where I am, or go to new company. (I work in engineering)

how did you decide whether a new job offer was the right way to go for you ?

I have considered job satisfaction, location, salary etc , all the obvious ones

one thing, I have known my current boss for 11 years. He has been very supportive in past year too, as I have been unwell.

new job offers more interesting technologies, more interesting, varied work. But I feel some allegiance toward my current boss. I am a little torn. I have to make my mind up by Jan 2nd.

I dont want any negative ****, if you cannot contribute anything positive, then go play with your new PS4.

Are your health issues now completely resolved or could they be ongoing - does your new job know about them?

good point. I am 98% there. Had operation 10 weeks ago. Just started back down the gym. Feeling better.

This is how I feel from bare bones day in day out hands on aspect. I get to my desk at mo, am glued to seat for 8 hours. Then go home. Same type of work, month in month out. New role would not be like that. They have assured me of good mix, variety. Is high tech stuff too. Current product, current employer is not that interesting product

they new my current salary from job agency. I certainly would never consider position from their first offer of matching my current salary. Then as they say, money is not everything in a job. Job satisfaction, personal growth, self worth feelings from job role, day to day variety are huge factors

hey ho, I have 36 hours to jot things down again, at least come to a 80% decision in my own mind. I was planning to have quiet chat with my manager (the one I have known for 11 years) on Jan 2nd. Get his reaction, opinion from me having an offer in the bag

What do you hope to achieve from that? Even if gets you another £2K the underlying reasons for you looking for another job remain...low tech work, same month in month out, little or no autonomy, etc, etc, etc.

Overall feeling from reading the more recent posts is that it's probably time to be looking to move, but unconvinced that the job you have been offered is the right one to go for. If they haven't needed the role you are taking for 5 years who is to say they won't decide they really shouldn't have expanded into that area in the future?

thanks. I do feel some of my recent poor health has been exacerbated by the boredom in current role. Feeling glued to desk, putting weight on, feeling very stagnated all the time has certainly not helped my recent health conditions

thank you for your thoughts. Is another point. They have farmed some of the skill sets out to contract. I also know they have just 'got by'. The guy with the skill sets I am replacing retired 5 years ago. Just happened that the manager that replaced him was mechanical discipline, not electrical.

I would be reporting direct to more senior manager (not the current design mech. mgr). To use their words, puts me at immediate more senior position. Not as though I am bothered about rank, job titles.
  • I think what I would do is take the new job but then set a time limit for myself, say a year, to then move on to a better paid position with the new role giving you a better place to jump from (more responsibility by the sound of it? more forward thinking company?)

The pay rise is £166 a month before tax, student loan etc comes off. For me, I'd be going for it depending on what it could offer the job after that and what that pay rise would be.

Sounds to me like, if you are up for a new challenge, then its the right decision to take it.
There is defo no benefit monetary wise.

However if you want consistency and no change or element of change .. then its best to stay at the current role.
    365 Day 1p challenge - £371.49 / 667.95
Emergency Fund   £1000 / £1000 ( will enlarge once debts are cleared)
    DFW - £TBC

thanks. I will do some soul searching tomorrow. Try to see myself where I am at currently in 6 months time and do the same for the new offer
