There is nothing special regarding this old account, however, I had hoped to be able to obtain bank statements to help identify possible PPI payments in order to claim them back.
Is it perhaps possible that the account had PPI associated with it and it was actually invoked to pay off the overdraft after you lost your job?

If I remember correctly I stopped using the bank account after losing my job, however, I also seem to remember that there was an overdraft on the account which I don't think ever got repaid.

The PPI was not on the bank account, it was on a separate finance agreement totally separate from Barclays but the payments were taken from this account.
  • If you try to transfer a sizeable amount of money into a dormant account, for example, £500, would that trigger any suspicion with the bank? :o

If you tried the payment would bounce back - dormant accounts are for all intent frozen.

    20 year old account...

I doubt that you would stand a cat in hell's chance of getting any statements from that far back.

    PPI claims ended 29/08/2019.

Yes but Neelix entered that post on 30-12-2017.

Don't worry, you're not the first to get caught out and you surely won't be the last. :)

Would they still honor CPA payments on it though, but demand you make alternative arrangements to pay them it back?

    Yes.
In that case the account would not be dormant.
