Choosing an electricity supplier

Hi gang, I'll be returning to live in Blighty in 3 weeks time.

What is a quick and easy way of choosing and contracting an electricity supplier? (Is there such a thing?)

The house is in far west Cornwall.

Happy to give more details.

Remember on the day you move into a property, phone the existing energy supplier and provide meter readings.

You need to be giving the supplier the meter readings when you took over the ownership or took on the tenancy which can be weeks before you actually move in.
Sounds like you may be electricity only with an Economy 7 meter. In that case you will need to submit two readings only, the day/normal and the night/low readings.Do not use total ( t/T on the meter )
.Many Economy 7 meters have three readings, day/night/ and a total. Make sure you get the day and night two readings for the correct time period. The day reading will move in the daytime
Suppliers will easily bill you with transposed readings if you get it wrong

No, no electricity supplier supplies far west Cornwall. Still on gas lighting I am led to believe.

Enjoy the festive season in whatever part of the world you currently reside

mainly oil lamps in cornwall as little mains gas - cooking would be on a coal or wood fuelled range
  • Thanks for the advice and the humour.

"Festive Joy", I'm currently living in Australia, off to see the Sydney ashes test on Thurs, by god the weather here is hot though.

You may want to think about bringing a couple of Austramax lamps back with you based on the amended info boliston added :)

Any new house you occupy you will be on a deemed contract with the current supplier. You will need to contact them & as already said give them meter readings (which should be taken at the earliest opportunity) & get on their best deal that does not have exit charges. You then go on one of the comparison sites mentioned above & get the best deal you can & switch to that supplier. You could try the energy club on this site. Your biggest problem may be finding out an estimated future usage.
