Vitality Health Consultant Select

I am just about to sign up with Vitality Health insurance. Never had health insurance before.
Happy with our choices for most of the options, but was looking for some advice on the hospital lists option.
There is "consultant select" which means you don't get a choice, but Alliance Health apparently have independent consultants decide the best place for treatment based on your condition and location. This is the cheapest.
"Local" includes just 2 hospitals in my city is about £4 a month more (for two people) on our quote.
"Countrywide" includes all the hospitals in my city, is about £15 a month more.
Can't find much online about the consultant select or where you are likely to end up - so wondered what people thought about this? I mean I have no medical knowledge or connections so it is not like I would know anything to "choose" a hospital myself. But obviously if we had something obscure would want to go to the best place for it (which presumable GP would know).
Any thoughts or comments appreciated. I am looking at Vitality, but I think most insurers have the list system so maybe comments on that would be useful more broadly.
