Cheap but effective sound proofing for one wall?

Hi,

My parents have just moved house, and found that there is sound coming through into their living room from next door. Nothing antisocial but enough to bother them.

They've not got much money to spare but would like to look at options to reduce the sound coming through this one wall.

We've looked at soundproofing tiles, but I can't imagine them being that effective really.

I then came across this: https://www.soundstop.co.uk/soundproofing/soundproofing-walls/Sm20-wall-solution4.php

Only slightly more expensive than the thin tiles option, but looks much more comprehensive.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of this solution, or indeed if there's other option we should be looking at in the range up to around £500 for a single wall?

Many thanks.

  • Hello,

We have lovely neighbours but the walls are so thin. We needed to have all the walls skimmed in the house. We decided to batten the walls with 25mm x 50mm roofing battens at 600mm intervals. We then fitted 25mm acoustic insulation and then 12.5mm gyproc sounbloc plaster board.

It wasn’t the chepeast but very effective.
