    Whatever you do be very very careful or you will end up with a bigger mess than when you started.
    Any solvent or solvent based product will probably mark the top.
    As said before I would started with soap & water............

    Alcohol sometimes removes felt tip marker. Meths. Again sparingly, and test on an unseen area first.
    If it's got into the wood, it'll be in the fibres and "pores" and I doubt if you'll clean in
  • Just to confirm that my oak table is a solid and has a lacquer/varnish finish.
    Try an eraser.
  • Slightly left field idea: what about the stuff your local council uses to get rid of graffiti ? Flash wipes ?
