Depends on the fireplace. Get it checked to find out your options. We have no idea whats already in place, do you?0

Many installers will only fit goods they supply and for good reason.
If you don’t know what you will need far better to go to an installer for a full supply and fit service.0 -

What reason could it be ?
If I can buy a fire at £500 saving - what do they pay ?0 -
You're going to need professional help to to do a smoke test, tell you if the fire is appropriate for your situation, advise what flue you need & what ventilation is needed. Shop around armed with the real price of fires, i didn't pay a £500 markup.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

This is how we decided on the particular model !!
I will try they original fitters again to see if they are fixed in Price0 -
The type of gas fire you need will depend on the type of flue you already have: brick, pre-cast, pre-fabricated, balanced. If you don't know what you already have, then you are not competent to select a suitable fire.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

We had a survey done last month - the fire IS suitable
The fireplace is a normal brick built one - our present fire has its "exhaust" straight out of the rear in to the fireplace behind the fire - no seperate pipework - I therefore presume that no seperate flue is required ?0 -
If you supply the fire and there is a fault with it, the installer is within his/ her rights to charge you extra to sort it, if they supply it it is down to them.0

I'm confused now. You say you've had the survey done, I assume you've had a quote which you think is too much. Did the quote include fitting a flue?
If yes, then you need a flue. If no, then you don't need a flue. If you don't know whether that includes a flue & you don't know how much another installer will charge, how do you know the quote you have is too much?
If you get another installer he may disagree with the survey & say you need more work done.
I got everything done by the same people so if there were any problems they'd have to sort it out & couldn't pass the buck.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -
