We have recently had our walls skimmed. We used watered down white matt emulsion, before we painted it.
    Thats it.
We were advised to use watered down paint and not PVA as the watered down emulsion lets the walls breathe.

  • Good advice from purply.

Whatever you do dont go near it with PVA. This creates a sealed barrier so the water based paints you will use wont soak in to the plaster.

Just a 50/50 mix of cheap white emulsion and water maybe 2 coats but probably just one required.

This dries in no time then over with your chosen colour top coat.

leave the walls to dry out as long as possible first. at least a week as a general guide. opening a window will help too.
    thicker plaster will require longer.
    Get some gorm.

so theres no need to line the walls with lining paper?
btw the skimming that was done was not very smooth, i guess i will need to sand that down, and what about a few cracks that seem to be appearing?

I would get back in touch with your plasterer if cracks are appearing already
