Organising Garage

Options
Havoe decorating tools in flexi tubs on shelves, wood work tools in a tool trolley. Gardening stuff- petrol power tools. Was going to put power tools at back of garage so people living in my block of flats don't see them- (theft reasons), mower at front as it is so big. Spare timber on a wall shelf with 4 by 2 to keep it from falling out. Have photos and paperwork in plastic containers on shelves. Should I hang up my rucksacks on wall rather than leave on floor? Will paper and photos go off? The garage is in middle of others and has a hill to back for insulation

Could you not keep the photos and paperwork in the flat, it doesnt go off as such bu if its damp in the garage it could affect them.

    Whats in the rucksacks ?
Again would these be better off inside where its warm but then they are used in cold conditions so leave them where they are, maybe them up rather than on the floor.

I'd get the bags off the floor, near the ceiling. I assume there is no heat source in the garage, meaning it will get below 0 degrees? Think about mice too, they love to chew through material and paper.

A clear floor is a boon in a garage, though you've got the mower and other stuff, you can still make up a wooden bench that they can sit on.
  • Definitely paint the floor to minimise dust etc. You could get some cheap second hand kitchen wall cupboards - we have an old but in good condition, wardrobe in ours.
Oh and unusually we have the car in ours! Strange these days I know.

Why use wall cupboards and not shelves? What paint would you use? And is that so it's nice and smooth when brushing

The shelves have been in there years and are massively warped lol.

Someone said the temperature would go below zero- what does mean? Power tools -battery and petrol should be ok, shouldn't they?

My window cleaning pumps get water in them which expands- that's an issue I know. Thinking of attaching a duvet onto inside of garage door for insulation

The floor is mostly cosmetic although does make it easier to keep clean and more pleasant.
If the shelves are warped definitely replace with cupboards.

I’m assuming the garage is not for a car!

Why cupboards- protect items more from extreme temperatures?

For this reason. When you open the garage door people in your block can just see neat closed cupboard doors rather than attractive stuff to pinch.
    Also it’s tidier.

Got a ladder quite high on wall, which if laid along along floor would free up space for more shelves. Sound like a good idea? Could put ladder holders along floor to hold ladder upright.

What's the paint which is easily swept?
  • You know how much stuff you have that you need to store. Also what you’d like to store it in. I mentioned cupboards because in my opinion they look tidier and an element of security because everything is not on display when the door is opened.

You can put the ladders anywhere they will fit. Ours stand up but we have a pitched roof and an open loft space. Our car goes in the garage so most things are up on the walls. Garden tools, stepladders, pressure washer, deck chairs etc. In the wardrobe we keep golf clubs, wine (!) and in the other cupboards all gardening stuff and car washing equipment etc. We do have shelves and things are put in storage boxes on these so the contents are not obvious. We also have an insulated electric roller door (not essati, Roman or vercelli!)
As for the paint all the garage floor paints make it easier to keep clean so yes easy to sweep and even mop!
