Extending an extension
Options

I brought a house which had an already extended single story at the back of the house which knocked the back room into the kitchen. This made gave us a decent sized open plan kitchen. We've now had some kids and we need some extra space, I was thinking of moving but that's not an option. The neighbors have done an extension last year and their extension went about 3 metres further than ours which obviously got me thinking that we could do with that extra space as well.
I've had a look online too see if anyone had extended an existing extension with no luck. Our extension has a pitched roof and to keep costs down I was looking at having a flat roof. I was wondering if anyone had done something similar and had any advice.

My neighbour has recently extended his extension and done a bucket load of other work at the same time. Pretty sure he had to apply for planning permission... If your extension goes beyond four metres from the original house, then I believe this would fall outside permitted development and you'd need planning permission.
If you can, I'd recommend going with a pitched roof as it will last a lot longer than a flat roof. Insurance companies don't like flat roofs, so what you save now on building costs would be spent on higher premiums (depending on area) and ongoing maintenance. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0
