FLOORING - PLYWOOD UNDERLAY CARPETs

Hello Everyone, it be great to get some of your advice and experience in regards of flooring.
So i've got this old Victorian house!
The floorboards are not at the greatest of shape uneven with gaps, I'm looking to do my living room and bedroom.
Due to the structure of the house, the noise is very noticeable underneath for the people living in the flat below
So i thought i level the floor out with plywood underlay and carpets. Will hopefully keep the heat and noise levels within the house.
The question i have, has anyone done this before putting the plywood -> underlay -> carpet if so what thickness have you done?
Thinking either 6mm plywood -> 9mm Underlay -> Carpet
or go 9plywood - 9mm underlay - carpet but then i thought might be too thick, i would like to keep cost so i could even go for
3mm -> 9mm -> carpet
what is the standard???
Please advise/help

There’s no such thing as too thick.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Never done plywood but often used hardboard in the past before having carpets laid.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
6mm plywood minimum, 3mm will not level the floor. 9mm would be my choice if you can get away with it, this will give you a good solid surface for the underlay.
Underlay thickness really has a lot to do with the quality and backing of the carpet. Cheap felt back carpets benefit a lot more from 9mm underlay than a good quality hessian based backing which you can use 6mm for. Doors can be trimmed and a few mm's isn't going to show as much as you might think so don't worry about the height.0
