I think I'm going to buy one of these
https://www.richersounds.com/hi-fi/mini-hi-fi/denon-dm41-dab-blk.html

Our 'project' is wired for four ceiling speakers - two in the kitchen and two in the lounge, but the area is 'open plan'

I'm probably going to buy some speakers from screwfix, maybe these??
https://www.screwfix.com/p/evoson-ls-ic601t-6-ceiling-speaker-30w-100v/3228h

I would like to have the sound output with three options:-
A - kitchen only
B - lounge only
C - both

Just looking at a similar thread on here and saw this
https://www.maplin.co.uk/p/4-way-stereo-speaker-switch-box-n99kt

Would that do what I want???

:)

Speakers you have chosen are totally unsuitable, they are for professional PA systems with 100V line outputs which the Denon does not have. These should work OK but only a suggestion not a recommendation:

That's a nice little hifi, I bought the previous DM40 from Richer recently. It may be overkill if you're not spending much on speakers. If you have a Richer Sounds close I'd pop in for a chat.

I use a QED switching box but I've had it for decades so I've no idea what they're like nowadays.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • interesting. I used to have ceiling speakers with a switching unit in my last flat. Too had a q e d switching unit. It did the same thing as what you are aiming for .

My speakers were coming out of an external Cambridge audio amp.
Can't see why your system won't work.

However don't scrimp on decent speaker cable ( q e d 79 strand is what I swear by which is always on eBay cheap but good)

The ceiling speakers I had were skytronic . Cheap and cheerful. Again try eBay . I got all my stuff pre internet . Mainly from Tottenham ct road in London.

Not a bad idea asking richer sounds as mentioned. They sell and could install them for you if you purchased from them.

They're almost certainly 8 ohms if you cut the black and white wires between the speaker and the transformer and connect the speaker ends.

But better/cheaper can be obtained from amazon or ebay

A different issue... this device does not have usb, or support mp3 or flac formats? Are you sure you really want to buy this???

You could get more functions from a £16 car radio of ebay with a remote control - no cd though. Granted, not what you wanted but feature wise they are great, making this seem overpriced.

As I mentioned earlier, skytronic ceiling speakers ( around£25 a pair) would be the way to go. Check Ebay . Thick Speaker cable enhances the sound also .
The setup is fine imho .

I would ask richer sounds about the idea of connecting the splitter.
Some systems may not be made to be driven so hard.

If you were to Consider the marantz system instead, it has 2 sets of Speaker terminals and that would be safer. Not sure if you can switch it the way you want , if so get that instead.
Also, no need for a splitter at all . Again , check with richer sounds who will advise

On the point of speaker cable - I wouldn't bother unless you're spending thousands on equipment & are going to change all your furnishings to maximise the acoustics. I've got the house wired for sound with mains flex & the "experts" who sold me my hifi couldn't tell the difference.

  • Those little Denons sound really good, don't waste it on cheap speakers.

Richer sounds has a two way switch but it has very poor reviews. This will allow switching in two rooms. https://www.maplin.co.uk/p/2-way-stereo-speaker-switch-box-n98kt
