I’m not officially teetotal, but I virtually am.
I started drinking less and less when I started to live alone and had to drive myself home, rather than take turns.
I got to like waking up with a clear head, fresh.
The after effects have put me off, I drink so very rarely now, a glass would affect me!

Gave up after the twenty something peer pressure had gone, not touched a drop now for 25 years, complete tee-total.
  • OH had a serious head injury which resulted in frequent headaches - and these were made even worse when he drank alcohol, so it was a no-brainer to give it up. He wasn't drinking when we first got together, so after a year or so of me opening a bottle of wine and taking a month to drink it, I decided I might as well give up the alcohol myself.

After about 10 years of not drinking, he decided to risk a pint and see what happened. All was well, and we both enjoy a drink - but really not a lot, just a couple of glasses a couple of times a week.

  • I became alcohol intolerant when I developed ME/CFS, so I don’t drink at all. It’s just not worth it for me.

Although I did manage a glass of Asti on Christmas day!

Just wondered if so what made you do it? Was it health or something else?

Asking because recently i’m not enjoying lager any more and tbh I hate the hang over effect next day.

My fav drink is G&T but even that lately I find myself leaving, seriously thinking I could quite easily give up alcohol and never touch a drop again.

Over the last 3 ish years i've went from a heavy spirits drinker to a "take it or leave it" type feeling with regards to alchohol.

I enjoy a few on a night out but i dont get any pleasure from being very drunk any more nor the bad hangovers.

Having said that, i'm approaching 50 so "wising up" was long overdue. :D
  • I drank as a teenager, not excessively, but when out with friends. I didn't like the feeling of being out of control and was usually sick after just three or four drinks. After a few times, I didn't really get the point and thought it was a waste of money and not doing me any good. So, I stopped when I was 20 or so and have been as good as teetotal ever since (I'm mid 40s now) other than a sip of a toast at weddings, and perhaps a sherry or a snowball at Christmas :rotfl:. I have as much fun without alcohol, I think. You do have to be quite strong-willed though, lots of people just don't get that you'd rather not have a drink.

  • I gave it up nearly 25 years ago and I have not drank since. Done for health reasons after going out tothe pub most nights. Alcohol destroys the digestive system and can lead and promote many health problems.

I did used to drink mostly Cider with some Lager but was not that keen on Lager. I would not go near to any of it now with what I know now.
  • I had some health issues which were much worse when I had alcohol so stopped because it hurt when I drank. I never drank a lot but i did drink regularly. The pain was enough to stop me wanting to drink. Although I got better pretty quickly, I never went back to drinking because I didn't miss it and rather liked the alternative - not least because it was much cheaper. That was probably about 20 years ago. I might have a small glass of wine or a half pint from time to time. I just switched to soft drinks in pubs/with dinner. Now, I'm very glad I had that 'warning' when I was young enough for no serious damage to be done - and don't feel I'm 'missing' anything.

I don't drink alcohol, I stopped when I had my child. Simply because, alcohol makes me feel dreadful the following day (parched, headache etc) and I needed to be energised to keep up with a youngster. She's 16 now, I still don't drink alcohol, and I don't miss it. I think in that 16-plus years I've maybe a dozen alcoholic drinks. I wouldn't rule out having a cocktail or 2 on a planned night out (not a regular occurrence for me), but that would generally be my limit. I usually have a soft drink or a coffee if I meet with friends in bars etc.

I rarely drink alcohol now though i do like the occasional g+t but thats like once in a blue moon - i still have a bottle that someone bought me out to malta when i first moved there 3 years ago.

when i was younger i used drink to fit in and to mask pain but realised it wasnt really doing either so i stopped drinking and i felt so much better and dealt with things.
