This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

    Morning everyone

I have just been reading some of the threads from the past few days that I have missed but I am not fully up on what has been going on for everyone

Dumpling I’m glad that Christmas Day was ok for you. I hope that Becky will soon start to improve.

Crankey, what a shame that you and the HT came down with a virus when you did, I hope that you both soon feel better.

Csarina and Judi, I hope that you are both feeling a bit better today.

It makes sense for you to stay in Glasgow until Saturday Gers, spending time with your mum and saving on one extra journey home and back in the winter.

I was really pleased to read that Frank made it to his and Margaret’s anniversary JackieO, and you are certainly not burdening us by talking about him on the thread, you keep doing it.

    Redruby the kitchen looks amazing.

It sounds like you are having a good holiday Camelot1001

Karcher, hopefully work wasn’t as bad as you thought it would be.

TA I’ll be thinking of you and Mr TA today and hope that the results of the scan are good.

Thank you to those of you who wondered where I was. You were quite right I wasn’t going away at Christmas at all. Unfortunately I became increasingly unwell during the morning of Christmas Day and ended up in hospital. I’ve struggled with a heart/blood pressure problem for over a year now but am still waiting for more hospital tests. They took me in for observation because I had a really slow and irregular heartbeat. It finally settled down yesterday afternoon so I was allowed home. It was a strange sort of Christmas though.

A friend very kindly came here and froze everything that I had bought for Christmas so I still have all of the food and I’m planning on having my Christmas at the end of January. I would have used the food for New Year but am going away to stay with my brother and his family for a few days.

Get well wishes to all of you who are unwell. Hopefully you will all start to recover quickly.

Have a good day everyone however you are spending it.

Oh Holly Sorry to hear of your stay in hospital. Please be kind to yourself whilst you recover.

    Morning all.

Feeling a bit brighter today thankfully, I didnt do much yesterday resulting in the men eating nothing but ice cream and chocolate all day. Im sure they will regret it when the sugar rush wears off.:D

Going to try getting some order back in the house today but we will see.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

    Good morning all,

Hollyharvey good to see you back. We worried.....

Judi don't go mad on the tidying. You have minions there that you can feed in exchange for jobs done....

JackieO I feel for Margaret, I really do. Having had the quick loss of husband option happen yet seen some of my friends struggle waiting for the end I'd still take the quick no matter how much of a shock it was.

Good luck to Mr&Mrs TA and I hope you're both feeling a bit better too. Csarina, I hope you're recovering too and that MrC doesn't get whatever you've had.

I gave up yesterday and gave the HT one of my steroid inhalers. I had started mine two days before and it was helping (I only need it when I have a cold or infection). There is a history of breathing problems going back to my great grandfather on my mum's side of the family and every time the HT has had something like this we've ended up at the doctors for steroids/antibiotics or both. The inhaler worked much more quickly than I thought it would. We started it yesterday morning and by last night he was asleep at 8:30. He didn't wake until 6:15 this morning which is one of his longest sleeps ever I think. He still has some of the cough but he said that he feels a lot better.

I have to take the car to be fixed this morning. The rheostat has gone so the blower only works on number 4 which is a nuisance. It's lucky that the garage is only at the top of the road as the hail which woke me at 6am seems to be on the road still.

    Take care all of you

    Morning everyone

Hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off, sorry to hear you've been unwell, take is steady x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light - very cold, frosty and icy.

DH and myself up and both just enjoyed cuppas and mince pies for him and porridge for breakfast for me.

Dinner last night was a clear up of turkey and sausages, menfolk had chips I had jacket potato with beans. Not sure what we'll be having today but we need bread and milk. We have several jobs we want to get done today, so we'll be heading out in a while. Menfolk took the tree and decs down yesterday whilst I was at work, so we have resumed some sort of normality.

Hairdresser text me yesterday to say she had a cancellation for early today than she was supposed to be coming so did we want her to come over earlier, so she'll be here at 2pm, messes the day up a bit, but better than 4.30pm and she's running late and we end up with a late dinner.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning all.

Holly, sorry to read that you have been so unwell, hope things pick up for you now. Best wishes to the others of us who are unwell too.

I didn't have to go out yesterday, just some telephone support work. I do have to go to work today but will be doing a short day. Everything is very icy here so I'll have to be careful as I'll be trundling my laptop in its wheelie bag. I don't want broken bits of me but falling and breaking the laptop would be a major inconvenience.

I do like Christmas but the food tends to be beyond me. I've eaten a lot less than OH and DS, who have enjoyed their snacks and crisps but everything is a bit rich. All my Christmas chocolate is waiting and some years I wonder (in a rather mean-spirited way) if they eat theirs quickly, knowing that I'll share mine. DS had terrible indigestion on boxing day and in addition to all the chocolate, said that he realised that he'd eaten his own weight in stuffing so hardly surprising.

The once-clean and tidy house now resembles a scene from a burglary. Still, there are twinkly lights and they encourage me to look beyond the mess.

I'll get ready in a minute. In a fit of unusual forward thinking, I've ironed my work trousies and even ironed some other stuff!

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Sending “wellness vibes” to everyone who needs them!
JackieO, having had a couple of nice days with DH’s family, I am ready to return home even though my house is beyond messy! There is just something very comforting about being in your own space.

Hope everyone enjoys getting back into their own routines - Christmas is all very well but ........

Good wishes to all from Mrs SaladDodger

Thanks for the thread Holly, sorry to hear you have been unwell.
Hugs to all those in need or who are unwell
Thick frost here this morning, I need to brave the jetty in a while to empty the ash pan. I've topped up the fire so it will soon warm up.

    Have a good day everyone.

AOD Im with you on eating habits over christmas its all too much for me

Managed to get everything portioned up and in the freezer yesterday the novelty of having so much extra meat wore off quickly when I saw the mountain of meals I now have to eat and i haven't even cooked the ham yet...back to the freezer challenge for me I guess

we had a little bit of hail last night but nothing much the car looks like it might be frozen though. Need to pick an Rx up this morning at some point but certainly don't need anymore food.

Going to take all the cards down today and get the house back to normal didn't put anything else up this year it didn't feel right with my dad not here and my mum off with wonder son. Hopefully the love of Christmas will return next year. New year has never been a big thing for me in fact i cant stand it ....wow i am a jolly soul today aren't I :D.....I will have something nice out of the freezer though as a nod to the end of the year from hell mmmmm let me think .....something turkey based maybe. :D

Today I will not be having turkey or i feel i will be starting to look like one ....baggy neck already in place :D

Have a good day all and take it easy all you poorly souls :A

    Morning everyone,

Nice to see you posting Holly but sorry you have been unwell, please take care of yourself x
Thoughts are with the TA's today, as well as get well wishes to all poorlies.
Thick frost too here in East Anglia, the horses are spending a second day in their stables as the fields have large frozen pools in them, will go over later and give my girlie a good groom.
We are venturing out this morning to pick up a few fresh bits, also need to pop into the opticians to get my glasses adjusted, all of a sudden they seem to be rubbing me behind my ear and making it sore, weird.
Then there is the never ending jobs of washing, ironing, hoovering up dog hair........

Have a good day folks x
