I'm begging, please help me!car dealer rip off

there isn't really a section for help on this but these forums have such a wealth of knowledge that i hope someone can help me! I really am desperate so please don't think that i am being annoying in posting this, i am just really stressed out! I bought a used renault clio cash and debit card no credit schemes or anything off renault dealer, had nothing but probs with dealer, went to pickup car, hadn't been serviced or had scratches repaired, told to bring in next week, phoned couldn't do it, bought in week later, broke the oil pump, had to have a courtesy car for 3 days while they repair it. when we bought it different guy to one that sold it put thru payment, other one supposedly in hospital! 1st of all couldn't find deposit, finally found receipt for cash deposit but said i had paid on card. anyway, we then gave over x amount cash and then paid the rest on card. all in all that night we were at the dealership for 2 hours! this was at the end of a very ong day at work! various other little problems with this dealership bu these were the major ones. all the paperwork is now in my name and have received all the documentation. today i got a phone call, the smarmy salesman claiming that they have suddenly found out that i still owe then £120. i got very andgry ont he phone and insisted on speaking to the manager. the manager explained that their records show i paid £100 deposit, £5903 casg and 400 on my card. the total balance was £120 more than this totals upto. however this is now 5 weeks ago, i seriously cannot remember how much cash i gave them. the only documents i have is an invoice off them and the registration documents putting the car in my name. after all the mistakes and aggravation that i have had with this dealership i just do not trust their word and just find the whole thing baffling!!! i said i would check my documents and get back to them. they phoned up again tonight and my mum said i was out as we really do not know what to do!!! i really do not want to give them £120 as i do not believe i owe them this. i have nothing apart from the invoice and registration documents. i am really worried that if i refuse to pay that they will be able to take the car or give me bad credit or in some way effect me even though i truly believe i have done nothing wrong.
i seriously need any advice possible, i am contacting citizens advice bureau forst thing tomorrow but just so i can sleep tonight please help!

i have an invoice thats printed, i have all the details from when i left the deposit, i have a receipt for the £400 on my card and a receipt saying i gave in 5903 in cash. this does add up to 120 under the agreed price but i just feel like they are trying to con me, they are their receipts and i just feel like they are taking the p coming back 5 weeks later saying their guy got it wrong, maybe he miscounted or something i don't know but there's no way i wuld have not paid in full.

They will have copies of all the receipts you have and the invoice. If the receipts show you have underpaid them by £120 then they are entitled to chase you for it and it was your responsibility to ensure you obtained receipts for money paid. I doubt they will though, and it is unlikely they will go to all the trouble of debt collection etc. They are unlikely to mark your credit record. But there is another side of this you need to consider. You should have received a warranty with this car and you may need to call on the warranty. If your receipts genuinely add up to £120 less than the price you agreed to pay for the car, do you really want to refuse to pay and jeopardise the warranty. If you have paid in full you can call on their services at any time when you need them, whereas if you don't pay up you may have to forget about the warranty. You could go and see the manager, explain to him that you are less than satisfied with their innefficient sales process and you would expect him to split the difference with you - you pay £60, they lose £60. Try it!!

I know i should have checked my receipts but i didn't, i had 2 kids with me and had been there over 2 hours. like i said before at first they claimed they had no record of me having paid a deposit, after 20 minutes of him scrambling around trying to find it he came back with a receipt that said i had paid £100 on my debit card, i paid cash so i have reason to distrust their records. surely by signing the car over to me they have awknowledged that i have paid in full. if i had a credit agreement i would think i had less options but as i didn't take out credit i just think they've either messed up and genuinely miscounted the money i gave or someone there has sticky fingers. uh, i hat this so much!!!! £120 is a lot of money to me. the car is only 1 year old so it still has a 2 year warranty with the manufacturer, would this mean i could go to any renault garage or would i have to go to them.
  • maybe you should pay up before the dealer sues for libel

They fixed the issues, they gave you a courtesy car

They have dealt with their end of the deal, you still owe some of your end

They gave you receipts etc, if you accepted receipts for the wrong amount then that is your fault and no one elses as you can prove nothing

Pay up and stop libeling the dealer when technically speaking its you who ripped them off

and almost 6500 for a clio!!!

    !!!!!!

You can pick up brand new ones for not much more, I really hope it isnt any older than a year
  • you should be able to use your warranty at another garage, not just where you bought the car. can you ask them for a copy of all receipts they have relating to your car? has the dspute arrisen from the deposit which they think was on a debit cars and not cash? it seems strange they let you drive away without having full payment for the car first. theyre not part of littlewoods are they???, claiming back money months later. good luck getting it sorted.

Sorry emmamc - you chose to take the kids, and 2 hours to process a car sale is not unusual. You state they were very disorganised but you sound as if you were also disorganised. You paid more than £6000 for a car but you are uncertain how much cash you handed over, maybe £120 more than they say you handed over and they are trying to pull a fast one. With that degree of uncertainty I have to question your comment on £120 being a lot of money to you. I am still of a mind that if you have underpaid by £120 then you should pay what you owe.
