  • It seems dreadful to me that he can be turfed out with inadequate care. Was it his or his wife's wish that he came home, or did they think they had no option?

Have nothing further to add, but hope they get the extra help that they need.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

There are already " three lots of nurses come in daily and a starlight nurse during the night."

Are these nurses or health care assistants/home carers? Both are excellent but there’s a vast difference between a qualified nurse and a Home carer and i’m dubious as the wife seems to be left to turn the poor gent.

I'm curious too but I'd have thought with 4 visits a day the wife wouldn't need to turn him but that she worries that she couldn't even if she wanted to.

I can see why OP came on asking for particularly financial advice. It must be difficult to have elderly family and not have the means to support them. But it seems to me that it's someone younger and fitter to be there to support the old lady that's needed which wouldn't necessarily cost money especially as people have time off work at this time of the year.

It does sound awful on the face of things that because he effectively didn't die quickly enough he had to be moved from the hospice. I do wonder though whether the old gentleman and his wife really wanted to go home so didn't argue.
