Hi,
I'm looking for a massage device that can easily fit onto a car drivers seat to help with my lower back pain.
I've seen some online which do massage as well as heat the padded areas. Has anyone used something like this before? Any recommendations ?
I've seen the one below it's pricey but if it does the job then it's worth it
HoMedics Shiatsu Max 2.0 Back and Shoulder Massager - Adjustable Massage Chair, Relaxes Shoulder, Back and Upper Leg Muscles with Shiatsu, Rolling, Vibration, Soothing Heat Treatments + More - Grey https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01D1ATJSY/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_qbTqAbQ0BMHY0
Thanks

Nope they are junk.
If you want to try one then ALDI or LIDL sell one for £20 or so, half that when on sale.
I wouldnt fit one to a car then they sell it as you are likely to nod off.
Dont forget if your cars seat has airbags then it may interfere with them.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I have a very bad back and own a HoMedic massage device very similar to the one in the link.
They are not junk and they will also not send you to sleep (as mentioned in the above post). However, they are very painful. For many people they are too painful to use (re. the Shiatsu part). It is supposed to be uncomfortable as it is a deep tissue massage device.
They are also quite bulky and not suitable for use in the car in any way.0 -
Sell the car, buy one with a seat that doesn't give you back ache. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

You should first look at how the seat is set up. It may be that you have the seat too upright (perhaps thinking that is better for supporting your back).
Look at whether you can extend the steering wheel and then put the back rest further back so the weight of your back is going more onto the seat rather than simply down through the spine.
The lumbar pads can be useful (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Medipaq%C2%AE-Ultimate-Breathable-Lumbar-Cushion/dp/B00BQWOARU/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_200_bs_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=BPBM6B8BPFKK2RSX256T)
I had a friend who was an ergonomist who used to get something like this manufactured. It's about trying to maintain a curve in your spine which then can absorb the bumps that you get.0 -

Have you read your own post and the Amazon listing? The listing says your likely to nod off, not something i made up.
So its not just but its likely to cause excessive pain and in your words "too painful to use"?
The deep tissue massage (in the one i took apart) is a small plastic box with an off balance motor.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

I own one of them I know exactly how painful they are. No idea what you took apart, but that is not one of the ball things that are in the back of the chair. Look at the picture in the image - you can see the massage part bulging in the bottom of the chair. That is not the same as the thing you have taken apart.
Just some of the reviews from the listing:
"Having switched the massager on we took turns and both found it extremely uncomfortable to the point of being painful; the moving nodules are hard and really dig into one's body but it was too violent for her - she felt bruised! I have kept it for myself and even though I like a firm back massage, it's even a bit too much for me at times"
"If you are looking for a relaxing and calming massage then keep searching this is not for you. The rollers are rock hard, unrelenting once in operation and more than once I had to leap off the chair because the discomfort became unendurable. "
"the balls are so hard and painful even on the softer setting"
There is no way you will nod off despite what the ad says.0 -

I had something similar to those years ago.. Then my physio recommended something called a "McKenzie Roll". It was brilliant and I ended up buying three. One for the car, one for work and one for home. Halfords used to sell them but I haven't seen any in there for years.
The guy who developed it (a New Zealander called Robin McKenzie I think) also wrote two books about how to care for your back and for your neck - they are both excellent books.0 -

That looks like it and I would recommend it. I think there are two versions (you could make one yourself any way). The simple version is just a medium density foam roll about five inches in diameter. There's another one which is firmer density foam and "D" shaped in profile - that's the one I use in the car.
As the earlier poster I quoted said, their purpose is to support and maintain the "lordosis" or natural curve in your lower back - loss of which is a common cause of lower back pain.
OP - have you had a medical diagnosis of your back pain or seen a physiotherapist? If not, you need to.
ETA: Just looked at the link again and the lumbar roll and the McKenzie books seem to get good reviews. I found them all very useful, but would suggest OP needs a proper medical diagnosis. Lower back pain, sciatica etc can indicate other problems.)0
