Any stockbroker/high street bank will sell your shares for you.
However, it would be cheaper if you opened an account with a online or telephone broker and used that (transferring the certificate to them before selling) - instead of walking into a bank branch somewhere - even if its only for one or two shareholdings.
Two of the cheapest online brokers I know are:
1) HSBC InvestDirect who will charge you £11.95/trade to sell your shares but you do need to have or open a (free) HSBC current account.
2) Selftrade who charge £12.50/trade but as long as your shares are worth a total of £500 or more, they have a referral scheme where you could get up to £80 for joining them (my own details are in post 242). This means that if you only only a couple of shareholdings to sell, you could even make a net profit on selling your shares via them.
Neither of the above charge 'inactivity fees' unlike some other cheap online brokers and you want to avoid those unless you will be using your share dealing account regularly.

Dear Sunil,
Thanks very much for your really helpful posting regarding Selftrade. I've got a few shares to sell from a company I've just left (I've received the certificate). Please could you advise me how I could sell these with Selftrade making use of their referral scheme.0 -

If you contact me I will talk you through the process - my details are in post 242 on this page
I would need your full name and an email address on which you are happy for Selftrade to contact you on in order so that can invite you to join their service.

Hi Sunil
I always there were two or three where you sell for £10 without becoming a member. I am thinking of Hargreaves Lansdown and Share.com.0 -

There are other brokers one could use to buy/sell shares but if you go via the Selftrade referral process - you get upto £80 for doing so, which more than covers the cost of several trades.
As such, if your only interest is to sell the shares in one company, then you would even be left with a net profit of £67.50 (£80-£12.50) after doing so.. which you can withdraw and use for something else
Also, despite the fact one needs to 'join' Selftrade, its standard dealing account has no annual fees or inactivity fees.. so it doesn't matter if you only ever use the account once..
