  • I think your wife needs to formally write to her siblings, requesting that they buy you out. She need to make clear that refusal will result in her taking legal action to force a sale, which will be expensive for all concerned.

    I think your wife needs to formally write to her siblings, requesting that they buy you out. She need to make clear that refusal will result in her taking legal action to force a sale, which will be expensive for all concerned.

    And the formal request needs to come via a solicitor to make it clear she's serious otherwise they are just going to fob her off as before. Even them buying a share wont come without issues, I cant imagine the ones living there will value it at what your wife thinks its worth, or what an independent valuation will value it at.

    You have just as much right to live there.

    I would start with tea and cake though, and perhaps pay the sisters a visit. I would make it clear that you would like to sell your share of the house. How many bedrooms does it have? How much could it be rented out for?

    The executor did his job a couple of years ago, and all is thoroughly sorted on that side. It's just a simple "Joint owners - one wants to sell" question.

    Agreed. Though the OP should check the precise terms of the will as advised above just in case the sisters have some additional life interest or other right.

    The Property Alert notification is still a good option as you would be notified if say a buyer's solicitor submitted an official search (OS1) ahead of submitting the purchase registration.

    And yes re that purchase being lodged but that would, I suspect, rely on their forging your wife's signature. So the alert still works but I doubt if it will be triggered on a sale as suggested.

    OP says it was on the market but then taken off - one possibility is they realised all 4 siblings are registered so they can't sell without your wife's involvement so........now won't sell?
