When is the 'opening' of an account?

Hello,

last year around this time I had ordered the Morgan Stanley Cashback credit card. I waited and waited and nothing came back...until one week after Christmas i finally received my card. i was so angry because it took them almost 3 months and I had missed the shoppings. I have canceled the card a bit later.

This year, thinking of being experienced, I ordered the Capital One 4% cashback card more in time. After only 1.5 weeks I have received today the bloody forms to sign up. Now its a bit too soon for me. :)

The reason is that I hoped start using the card mid/end November, because of my upcoming holiday bookings in January.

The small prints say from the day of accounts opening the 4% Cashback will be valid for 3 months. Well when exactly is the opening? is my account right now already open and I am loosing the days? Is it the day they receive my signature? or the day I receive the credit card? or even the day i activate my credit card?

Do I have a way to make the process slower? :D

Thanks
houmie

If you haven't signed the forms, have they done credit checks on you?

It looks to me as though they are just slow processing your application - but the account cannot actually be opened until they have completed the process of credit checking and have your form back.

yes i am sure they have done so. The moment you apply for the card, it takes about 15 seconds and it checks straight away online for your credit history and I got accepted. Then after 1.5 weeks I received a welcome letter that I have been accepted and a form to sign and send back to receive the credit card.

Interesting nobody really knows when the initial cash back of 4% would actually start?

Capital One will know so why not ask them? I suspect it will be from when they receive your signed agreement form.
