Issues with Holiday Lettings website

Options
Two weeks ago I saw a cottage for let in mid august 2018, 7 days stay for £401. However when I went on again to book this cottage on Christmas eve the price had increased to £646. I subsequently emailed the owner of the cottage and he said the increase had been imposed by holiday lettings as commission for them. Are they allowed to do this legally? I feel for the cottage owner as a result he has lost a potential booking from us as I simply cannot justify this increase. Should this be a matter for trading standards or are holiday lettings well within their right to do this?

Hi it doesn't seem like the owners explanation is plausible, to have such a hike and such a high commission, this is well above industry standards, however the owner can change prices and charge whatever he likes, the hotel and airline industries have operated like this for years. Not a matter for trading standards as you hadn't booked when you saw the lower rate
  • £400 for a week in August would be incredibly cheap, so I'd guess he made a mistake and has now remedied it.

You have no grounds for complaint, there is no contract between you and the owner.

If you've contacted the owner directly, ask what it would cost to book the cottage direct through them.

No because you haven't booked anything IMHO
