Switching current accounts trouble (HSBC) - direct debits

Seem to be having a bit of trouble after we switched from Santander to HSBC to grab their £200 incentive.

All the direct debits are listed in our online portal - i've cross referenced all of them.
Most have paid out ok.

But we're having trouble with a few. My wife's EE bill wasn't taken and she got warnings over it.
eBay were warning me that my account would be restricted as my bill wasn't being paid.
Then i've been getting calls from an unrecognised number lately (i never answer them). Turns out it was o2 calling me to tell me that my bill hasn't been paid and if i don't pay by the 28th then i'll have £3.50 added to the account. This has been paid automatic ever since i took the deal out years ago.

I thought all this switching was supposed to be smooth & painless? That's what they claimed anyway.

  • Well if the direct debits are listed on the new account the problem lies with the originators.
Just tell them the new account details and move on.

It's always best to check your account until the first payment has been taken after a switch. Your old and new bank can switch the DD's but they can't make the beneficiaries claim from the right account ! Quite often companies fail to take notice of information they are sent and still try to take money from the old account.
  • We were told that anything going to the old account would be redirected to the new account for something like 36 months.

I've made the manual payment now.

Usually i don't bother checking those sort of emails as i think they're spam and just go into auto-delete mode but this time i just opened it and saw. When they told me the switch would be painfree and i wouldn't have to lift a finger i thought they would be telling the truth.

    I'll know in future...
