Joint account question

Options
Hi all,

Quick couple of questions which I hoping to get answers to.

I'll be getting married very soon and will probably open up a joint account. However, I have a slight concern in that the soon to be wife has a poor credit rating. She has only recently been allowed a proper debit card from her bank (after she agreed to uprade to their gold account) She has got a credit card with Capital One and they have recently given back the security deposit that she had to give in order to get the card.

How will her credit rating affect mine? We live together (3 years) (mortgage in mine name) and all her mail gets delivered to our home. This hasn't effected me in the time we've been together.

I'm also concerned because I need to remortgage soon, hopefully adding her name to everything.

Any advice is appreciated.

ps. running away is advice too late ;)

Congrats on getting married ( dont do it run as quick as you can lol)

On a serious note , it wont make any odds as you will already be financially associated with her as your accounts are at the same addy !!!

The only problem you've got is the fact letting a woman have a CC is the first step to financial ruin and 50 pairs of shoes in the wardrobe :D

To be financially associated with another person you have to share accounts for which you are jointly and severally liable, ie current account, mortgage, or loan.

Sharing the same address, in itself, will not financially associate you with someone.

    YorkshireBoy is correct.

A credit reference agency has no other way of knowing if someone else living at the same address as you is your partner - even if you share the same surname, as they could be your brother/sister/parent etc

I suppose I could pay for a credit report to see if her rating has improved any since moving in together.

Are there any places I can ring for advice?
