Afternoon everyone, glad to hear you all had good Christmases. Mine I had a massive panic attack in the morning :( over my DS presents, he wants to take me on various days out to get over my fear of going out but it was too much and just set me off, I felt so awful for him because he puts so much thought and effort into his presents. But had a great rest of day with Thumper, he absolutely loves his kindle fire so that made me happy. We ate dinner so late it just seemed to take ages this year, so the day went far too quick, we played some games after dinner and just had a fun day. The rest of the week we have all had long lie ins and film afternoons, its been so nice having both DD1 and DS home the whole break, usually they have to rush off back to work, so it still feels Christmassy here. I too cant bear the decs and tree up for NY but this year I don't want to take the tree down! I will see how I feel tomorrow. I stay in on NYE and have a quiet night in then NYD we all get together again and have a roast. I still need to think about resolutions :D

Sounds like a lovely time Freespirit. I can understand your days out fears. What kind of places is he wanting to take you? Maybe just take them one at a time and don't think about the others. And not too far in advance for you to worry about. It's a lovely idea of his, but can understand how stressful the thought of it all is. Are they booked? What about choosing the one that you think you could handle and then see how you feel about the rest? X

I also don't want to take my tree down this year. Ive enjoyed having it all up. Although I do want to give the place a good clean. Does anyone leave anything up all year that isnt a christmassy as such but makes you smile and think of christmas when you look at it? I usually move my twiggy lights to the window next to the door. They are always on in the winter and by May or so I don't have them on as much as its light at night. But they are like little Christmas lights and make me feel happy. They have stopped working. I was thinking of getting more, but wondered if you all had something you leave all year round?

Went out shopping with DM today and picked up some perfect socks for a friend next Xmas. I haven't been over to that centre for ages but there did seem a lot in the sales and my DM got some perfect presents too (one for this Xmas as she's been ill and not been out and a b'day gift too) so pretty successful all in all.

I'm really enjoying reading everyone's posts, I think I must just be nosy because I love hearing what you're all up to.

NIC I usually leave one of those little Japanese style trees out all year, it lights up a dull corner and makes me feel good. Unfortunately when I moved it in the run up to Christmas the transformer broke and it's a mounded on one so I couldn't replace it so had to throw it away. I've got some tall twigs coming though and I'm going to thread lights through them for all year round instead. I think I'm also going to leave my tall white twig tree out and just change what I hang on it each season. I used to do something similar but just stopped a couple of years ago so I think it's time to start it up again.

FREE sorry to hear your lovely pressie threw you into a spin but try not to worry, your DS is a thoughtful and understanding lad and he won't push you if it's too much. Don't forget how well his idea worked out the other year when you were challenged to go out walking further each time. I think NIC is right, one step at a time and if it gets too much you can stop or spread things out more. You can do it, you've already come so far. Btw I couldn't believe how big Thumper has got in your IG photo, I still think of him as a baby :D

We don't usually go out for New Year, just a quiet night in, watch the London fireworks on the tv then off to bed. New Year's Day is DD2's birthday so we'll all be getting together for dinner for a double celebration.

In case I don't get on tomorrow I'd like to wish you all a very happy new year and everything that you'd wish yourselves for 2018. You're a great bunch.

Hello all. Nice to see we've all had (relatively) good Christmases!

Mine felt a bit odd this year. Decs didn't go up for ages and Christmas Eve came round way too quickly. And I didn't feel quite so into the spirit of things like I usually do. No idea why because everything was as lovely as usual. Been enjoying the food though. Perhaps too much! :rotfl:

Been looking at sales online. I'd like a new purse and a handbag I can use in the rain (not meant to get my leather one wet). Can't find anything I really like though, typical!

Had a lovely day today. Dad was off out all day to a football match so my sister, Mum and I watched Christmas films and did some pampering. The foot soak thing I got from Lush works wonders! :T

I'll have a think about resolutions. Need to make a list of things I won't do this year like all past years! :rotfl::rotfl:

    What's everyone's plans for Hogmanay?

I'm doing nothing! I have never had a desire to go out and drink at NY. I think it comes from working in a taxi office and knowing how busy and crazy it is out there. (plus it was always double pay so preferable to work!)
I will be working til 4pm (I was day off but volunteered to help out on the phones) then coming home to sit on the sofa and browse the net and chill for the evening.

  • Hi all been to my mum's today and just had a lazy afternoon taking photos and playing games we bought for Christmas day but never played.

We also drew the theme for week one of our 52 photo challenge that we are starting on Monday. Just a bit of fun between the family but we draw a theme at random each week and we all have to take a photo to fit the theme. Normally only me left in it by the end so we will see how far we get this time :rotfl:

  • Hello all, can't believe we're on the cusp of the New Year already! This past week has flown by. We had a lovely Christmas day, even though Hubby had to work for a few hours. We opened our presents to each other and presents from friends in the morning before he left for work, then I chilled out a bit and made a start on Christmas lunch. We ate at about half 1- 2pm, and I cooked turkey breast, roast potatoes, carrots, pigs in blankets, and sprouts with bacon. Hubby does not usually like sprouts, but seemed to enjoy them paired with bacon and lightly stir fried. We split a small Christmas pudding that I had got in a reduced hamper at the beginning of the year for pudding.

Boxing day was lots of fun, but very busy. We went out of a meal with my parents and my brother and sister in law, and I was rather greedy and indulged in the 3 course set menu! Then we went over to my parents to open our presents from them, and then over to the in laws for a catch up and a picky, buffet style boxing day tea.

Sadly, I was in work between the 27th and 29th, and, partly due to a buildup of work during the festive season, partly due to several people being off on holiday, it was extremely busy. Then I woke up yesterday with a bit of a bad head, which got progressively worse, spent most of yesterday afternoon in bed with the cat, and still don't feel great this morning. I have dosed up on painkillers, hoping that will chase this headache away, as even though we're not going out tonight, I want to be able to enjoy NYE at home.

Happy New Year to everyone here.

    Morning fellow christmasteers

Hugs to those of you feeling poorly

I woke up yesterday to sciatica in both legs :( I am not enjoying the pain! Tree is still up as I just couldn't stand to take them down, still cant stand properly now, but it is coming down today even if I have to sit and reach for the decs one at a time! I NEED my table back! I've already broken one computer mouse knocking it off my chair and into my tea, this would not have happened if my table had been where it was supposed to be :o :rotfl:

We do nothing on new years eve, we rarely even see the new year in preferring to go to bed :o , but I have bizzarely decided that we will have a second christmas dinner today  complete with pigs in blankets and extra veggies :o Roast dinner is my favourite meal and I had some pigs in blankets left from christmas day so seems a shame not to chuck them in as well :rotfl: (can't eat them myself but the others love them)

Have also not ventured out to any sales as 1) too much pain and 2) they were so dire last year, was just all the carp they couldn't shift through out the year. DS and DD have no need of clothes as we kitted them out in America earlier in the year, DS just needed some work trousers that I picked up in Tesc0 and some work shoes, but he doesn't start till end of the month so no real rush to fight the crowds, so can go on one of his college off days.

Am tentatively getting back into my comping after a considerable break but must not get addicted to it like last time! A few wins for next christmas would be greatly welcomed :D

Have a lovely New Year everyone

Sorry to hear folks are poorly, there's a lot of it going about - the number of people I've bumped into over the break who were ill at Xmas is astounding.

Free I meant to echo the others comments about your DS presents, could you pick one perhaps to try, the one that is closest or shortest in duration. He wouldn't have bought the gifts if he didn't have faith you could manage them.

Not sure what we're doing for NYE, OH has been away for a few days and is back later today (flights depending) I'm happy to sit in with a bottle of vino and a film but OH might want to go out so I'll make the effort if he does.
